2. Lubricates and reduces friction in vagina during birth.

4. Absorbs shock.
5. Supports and cushions fetus before birth.

2. Provides antibodies to protect the fetus from diseases via diffusion.
3. Allows carbon dioxide and other excretory waste products to be removed from the fetus via diffusion.
4. Produces progesterone to maintain uterine lining.
